For 18 years, Gayle Brostowski ’95 has traveled extensively around the country, preaching the gospel at churches, retreats, crusades, conventions, and camps. Her ministry has provided opportunities to witness God’s miraculous power to change lives, and, for these past 18 years, she has found God to be faithful…even after a devastating, life-threatening diagnosis.
In 1995, Gayle graduated from Valley Forge Christian College with a degree in Pastoral Ministries. She immediately began serving as a youth pastor in the Southern New England and New York districts, and was the only single, female youth pastor in the New York district at the time.
Nine years later, while on a summer missions trip with her youth, God clearly called her to evangelistic ministry. Within weeks, she had several confirmations from friends, and began to prepare to follow her new calling as a traveling evangelist. “I’m Pentecostal through and through,” Gayle says with a smile. “I preach a great deal about the Holy Spirit and His work in people’s lives.”
But in May 2011, while preaching a week of revival meetings in Maryland, Gayle suddenly knew that something was very wrong. Within days, she was diagnosed with third stage breast cancer. Within weeks, she had had extensive surgery and was undergoing rigorous chemotherapy and radiation treatments. The Holy Spirit vividly impressed Isaiah 58:11 on her heart: “The LORD will guide you continually, and satisfy your soul in drought, and strengthen your bones; You shall be like a watered garden, and like a spring of water, whose waters do not fail.”
In January 2012, she was given a good report by doctors, and has begun traveling again after a seven-and-a-half month sabbatical. This year, she will preach her testimony.
“I’ve always felt that I have a ministry of encouragement, but even more so now. When you walk through a difficulty, Jesus is with you every step of the way. I know that now more than ever. Every day is a gift from God, and I got a second chance to preach the gospel and touch lives for Jesus.”
Gayle continues to preach about four or five times a month, reminding people about the Holy Spirit’s work. She is also the Staff Evangelist at Green Ridge Assembly of God in Scranton, Pa., and serves on the National Evangelists Committee for the Executive Presbytery of the General Council of the Assemblies of God.
