On March 7, 2012, VFCC’s Latrell Alford has been named the NCCAA II Player Of The Year during the national basketball tournament in Springfield, Mo. This is not only a momentous occasion in Latrell’s career, but also marks the first time in VFCC school history that an athlete was garnered with the prestigious award in their respective sport.
Then, on March 15, 2012, Latrell received a similar honor. The Christian College Sports Network named Latrell the 2012 CCSN Player of the Year. Read CCSN’s article.
This season with the Patriots, Alford averaged 15.3 points and 6.4 rebounds per game. He leads the team in steals (71), blocked shots (32), is second on the team is scoring (473), and is third on the team in assists (71). Alford is known for his high-flying acrobatic dunks and shot blocking capabilities, and is a versatile player on both sides of the ball. A true man of God, Latrell aspires to take his game to the next level after graduating from VFCC, and enjoys mentoring children and young adults, both on and off the court.
Since coming to VFCC three years ago, Alford has received many accolades, a tribute to his hard work and dedication to the game of basketball including: NCCAA II Most Valuable Player, 1st Team All-American (2012) All-East Region Most Outstanding Athlete, 1st Team All-East Region (2012) All-East Region Defensive Player of the Year (2010, 2011, 2012) NCCAA II Second Team All-American (2011) All-East Region First Team (2011)
